Wu Ying

Ying Wu, a Ph.D. candidate in Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) Law School, is a senior Research Assistant at China Institute for Social-legal Studies. She simultaneously works as a Research Associate of China, Law and Development project at University of Oxford.

Before joining the doctoral program, she received an LL.B., a B.A. in Economics and a J.M. at SJTU. She was a fellow of Global Women Leadership Project at University of Pennsylvania Law School where she obtained her LL.M. degree. She was a visiting scholar at National Taiwan University.

Ying is a member of the Chinese Bar Association. Previously, she served as a law clerk in the Supreme People’s Court of China. Ying also received trainings from financial institutions to multinationals to the local Congress. She was a Young Ambassador of International Leadership Foundation and a fellow at US-Asia Institute Rule of Law Program.

Ying’s research has addressed the issues of global governance, legal pluralism, international human rights law theory and practice with a particular emphasis on critical and feminist perspectives.

Ying publishes in highly regarded academic journals and news/public engagement outlets. Her work has been presented widely in the conventions including Law and Society Association’s annual meetings and round-table panels, the conferences and workshops at the Institute for Global Law and Policy at Harvard Law School, the annual conference at Asian Law Institute , the Training Initiative for Asian Law & Society Scholars workshop, the scholar workshop at Penn Law, China’s Annual Conference on Socio-Legal Studies, the symposiums at UN Women and OHCHR, etc.
