【内容提要】

As is inevitable in matters of morality, political morality included, there are no currents without crosscurrents, or even countercurrents. It is not possible to discover completely new truths about fundamental moral questions like those upon which I will be touching. Such originality would imply that it is possible for all the people to be mistaken all the time about all basic moral beliefs. To suppose that that is possible is to misunderstand the nature ofmorality.
