The Third East Asian Law & Society Conference will be held in Shanghai during March 22-23, 2013. The conference is hosted by KoGuan Law School, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and organized by the Law & Society Association's Collaborative Research Network East Asian Law and Society (CRN-EALS). The theme of this year's conference is Building the Asian Socio-Legal Community: Theoretical Visions and Empirical Challenges.
 
The recent financial crisis has brought widespread changes not only to the global economy but also financial industry and financial regulation. On the one hand, the worsening sovereignty debt crisis in the EU deepens the scope and impact of the financial crisis. On the other hand, the post financial crisis era may witness technological changes and financial innovation, which further transforms the financial regulatory and competitive landscape and reallocates financial resources. These changes call upon deeper analyses of financial industry, financial market and financial regulation.We sincerely invite you to submit your papers. Our recommended subjects include, but not limited to:

(3) Legal Issues on Carbon Financial Law
 
(4) Electronic Financial Law

(7) Bankruptcy of Financial Institutions 
 
(8) Sovereignty Debt Crisis
 
(9) Global Cooperation on Financial Regulations
 
(10) Role and Function of Basel Framework after the Financial Crisis
 
(11) Shadow Banking and Legal Issues
 
(12) Sovereign Wealth Funds and Investment
 
We particularly welcome international scholars and graduate students to submit papers. Excellent papers will be grouped for further discussion, with distinguished scholars serving as chairs and discussants.
 
Please send your paper title/abstract (less than 200 words) or panel proposal (less than 1,000 words, 5 papers maximum) in English to both xuduoqi.law@gmail.com (Professor Duoqi Xu) and eals3rd_sjtu@163.com (Ms. Li Yiran) by August 31, 2012. In your proposal, please also include the name, institutional affiliation, and email address of each paper presenter and (if applicable) discussant. Please further note that each presenter is allowed to present only up to two papers, including a co-authored one. In addition, when you submit your abstract(s), please indicate the panel that you want to participate in; when you would like to set up an individual panel, please inform us in your panel proposal.
 
We will review all submissions and notify the applicants (of acceptance or rejection) by October 15, 2012.For accepted applicants, we expect you to submit the full paper before January 31, 2013.
