Norbert Rouland was born on January 24, 1948, in Marseille, France. He was a Member of the Institute Universitaire de France (Chair of Legal Anthropology) from 1999 to 2009, and a Visiting Professor at McGill University in Montreal from January to April 2017. He is currently Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Law of the University of Aix-Marseille, in France, and Institute of Political Science in Aix en Provence. He holds three doctorates: Roman Law, Legal Anthropology, Political Science. He wrote about 20 books and 120 articles. Several of his works (about roman law , statutes of ethnic minorities), notably Legal Anthropology, have been published in foreign languages. For exemple: English: Stanford University Press, United States; Russian (Ed.Nota Bene, Moscow), and non European: Chinese, published by Commercial Press of Shanghai in October 2023. Also: Indonesian, Iranian. He works about statutes and anthropology of ethnic minorities in multi ethnic States, like China and Russia. And too in Greenland and Arctic Canada. He has many connections with Brazil (some universities of Nordeste) and Russia(Moscow, University Lomonossov). With French, he speaks a little English. He is frequently invited in foreign universities, notably in Russia and Brazil. His firsts trips in China were in 1997: Beijing (University of People), City University Hong Kong. He visited Shanghai, Xian, and Guilin. In October 2023, he will go in South of China with his wife and give lectures at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University and Shanghai International Studies University.
