The Supreme Court's Next "Big" Case: President Obama's Health Care Legislation and The Federal System of Government in the United States

    D. Bruce La Pierre 

Professor D. Bruce La Pierre is a veteran constitutional law professor and experienced appellate advocate. As founder and director of the  law school's Appellate Clinic, he supervises student-lawyers who brief and argue cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, based here in St. Louis. In addition to the Appellate Clinic, Professor La Pierre teaches a wide range of substantive law courses both here and abroad. A former Fulbright Fellow, he has taught in Japan, Portugal, Taiwan, and Koreaand at the law school's Summer Institute for Global Justice in the Netherlands. His research, scholarship, and writing focus on such matters as campaign finance reform, election law, federalism issues, and school desegregation. The recipient of Washington University's Distinguished Faculty Award, as well as the Civil Liberties Award from the ACLU of Eastern Missouri, he served as a Special Master for the St. Louis school desegregation case and argued a Missouricampaign finance case before the U.S. Supreme Court. He also writes amicus curiae briefs in Supreme Court cases on behalf of state and local government organizations.
