Chinese Legal Profession in the Age of Globalization
Conference Program
A conference on the theme "Chinese Legal Profession in the Age of Globalization" will take place on June 11, 2011 at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China. The conference is being planned by the Project on Globalization, Lawyers & Emerging Economies (GLEE Project), hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) KoGuan Law School, funded by the Leo KoGuan Foundation, with co-sponsorship from East Asian Legal Studies Center at the University of Wisconsin Law School, and Program on the Legal Profession at Harvard Law School.
This conference is part of the GLEE Project's on going research on the legal professions in China, India, and Brazil. The GLEE Project investigates the impact of globalization on the legal orders in major emerging economies, including changes in corporate practice, public interest law, legal education and the relationships among these three issue areas.
With the collaboration between the GLEE Project and SJTU, the conference has invited a selected group of leading scholars studying the Chinese legal profession from both China and abroad. The conference consists of four panels. The panel topics include the historical development of the Chinese legal profession, globalization of the corporate law market, emergence of public interest lawyers, and comparative perspectives on lawyers and globalization.
