On July 6, 2023, the 2023 WAIC , with the theme of "INTELLIGENT CONNECTIVITY GENERATING", kicked of. The next day, the 2023 SenseTime "AI+:Regeneration" forum was held in the Silver Hall of the Shanghai World Expo Center. Ji Weidong, senior professor of liberal arts at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, president of the China Institute of Socio-Legal Studies, chairman of the Computational Law Branch of the China Computer Federation (CCF), and director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence Governance and Law, attended the forum and participated in Panel Discussion.

As the final Panel Discussion of the forum, four experts, including Ji Weidong, President of the School of Public Management of Tsinghua University, Zhu Xufeng, Director of the Research Center for Scientific and Technological Development and Governance of Tsinghua University, Weng Jialiang, Founder and President of AIII Artificial Intelligence International Research Institute, Zheng Yongqiang, Deputy General Manager, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Sumitomo Mitsui Insurance (China) Co., Ltd., presided over by Tian Feng, President of SenseTime Intelligent Industry Research Institute, A discussion was conducted on the topic of "How to collaborate with humans in the era of generative AI".

In the Panel Discussion, Professor Ji Weidong first discussed the governance model of artificial intelligence. The governance model of AI can be roughly divided into two types. The first is centralized governance, which is unified supervision through the establishment of independent specialized management institutions. For example, the United Nations plans to appoint an AI advisory committee in September this year to prepare for possible actions by the United Nations, and establish a new AI agency in the United Nations using the International Atomic Energy Agency as a template. The second type is distributed governance, which achieves joint governance of artificial intelligence through the broad participation of the international community. For example, the United Nations' Global Digital Compact released in May this year aims to maximize the enthusiasm of the international community to participate in and cooperate in the construction of artificial intelligence governance mechanisms.

After several other experts expressed their opinions, Professor Ji Weidong finally emphasized the importance of AI value alignment for contemporary AI governance and the two paths to ensure AI value alignment. To ensure the value alignment of AI, on the one hand, we need to focus on human-computer communication, and let AI understand human dynamic and diverse ethical needs based on human-computer communication through Procedural justice. On the other hand, we need to technically ensure the traceability, correctability and revocation of AI operation, so as to achieve the goal of credible and accountable AI.

In addition, Professor Ji Weidong also attended the WAIC Rule of Law Forum hosted by the Shanghai Law Society in Lanting, together with Professor Lin Xifen, Vice President of KoGuan Law School and Vice President of the China Institute of Socio-Legal Studies, Xu Yue, Director of the Institute's Office, Zhao Zerui, Assistant Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence Governance and Law, and Cui Chuanzhe, a phd student in in the field of law and AI.
