Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) Center for Computational Law and AI Ethics (CCLA) 2022-2023 Project Opening Meeting was successfully held

  On the morning of September 16, the opening meetingof the 2022-2023 annual project of the Center for Computational Law and AIEthics of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) was held at the Li FuCommunication Center of SJTU. Ji Weidong, Senior Professor of Liberal Arts ofShanghai Jiao Tong University, Dean of China Institute for social-legal studies,Co-Director of the Center for Computational Jurisprudence and AI Ethics, TianFeng, Dean of SenseTime, Co-Director of the Center forComputational Jurisprudence and AI Ethics, Lin Xifen, Professor of KOGUAN LawSchool of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Vice Dean of  China Institute for social-legal studies,Executive Director of the Center for Computational Jurisprudence and AI Ethics.Li Xueyao, Professor of KOGUAN Law School, Director of Law and CognitiveScience Research Center, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Member of PlanningCommittee of China Institute for social-legal studies, Wu Chentao, Professor ofComputer Science and Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Lin Xi,Professor of Political Philosophy, Fudan University, Assistant Director ofInstitute for Advanced Studies in Social Sciences, Director of TechnologyPolicy and SenseTime, Executive Director of Center for Ethics of ComputationalLaw and AI, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Mr. Gong Chao, Executive Director ofthe Center for Computational Law and AI Ethics, Shanghai Jiaotong University,and other experts and scholars attended the conference. President Ji Weidongand President Tian Feng delivered speeches at the conference.

  President Ji Weidong expressed his gratitude forthe long-term cooperation and support of SenseTime. He said that although thecommunication between the two sides has been hindered to some extent since theepidemic, the scope and depth of cooperation have been strengthened. Heemphasized that today's communication meeting will be more about how to betterintegrate and how to better conduct research based on both the researchcharacteristics and research interests of university scholars and the actualneeds of SenseTime, and encouraged both sides to speak up.




  President Tian Feng said that after theestablishment of SenseTime. the first external cooperation is with ShanghaiJiao Tong University. He pointed out that efforts should be made to resonatethe working frequencies of universities and enterprises to raise commonproblems and jointly establish an ethical system of science and technology thatmeets the needs of domestic development. He said that SenseTime empowers 100industries and has many cases of practical grounded application scenarios thatcan support the academics of the institute to communicate with world-classscientists, while SenseTime can also provide researchers with the mostcutting-edge AI industry practice challenges.

  Prof. Lin Xifen expressed his gratitude to the twodeans for their wonderful speeches and said that the compliance of AI ethics isvery important, and the related innovations are easily challenged by law andregulation, so it is important to grasp the bottom line. He introduced threeaspects that need to be noted in the cooperation model of this year's annualtopic: firstly, scholars should stick to their research interests andstrengths; secondly, researchers should dovetail and combine their researchwith the specific topic needs proposed by SenseTime, and should solve practicalbusiness problems and provide reference for SenseTime; finally, research needsto expand its impact, and for relevant research content, it is better to holdregular seminars and research salons to expand the dissemination of theresearch content.



  

  Director Gong Chao and Hu Zhengkun, Director ofScience and Technology Policy of SenseTime, Liu Liang, Director of StrategicResearch of SenseTime, and Yang Yan, Director of Strategic Ecology Research of SenseTime,then introduced the annual alternative topics in detail. The alternative topicsmainly focused on smart driving, smart computing center, AI governance,meta-universe development, ESG system and other fields. The participantscommunicated deeply about the topic content, objectives and cooperationresources, and Prof. Li Xueyao, Prof. Wu Chentao, Associate Prof. Liu Hai andProf. Lin Xi participated in the topic discussion and made speeches andexchanges.
