Liyang Hou is associate professor and KoGuan Youth Legal Scholar at KoGuan Law School, Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2011. Prior to joining KoGuan, he was a researcher at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Law and ICT, Faculty of Law, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) between 2007 and 2011. He read law at Beijing Institute of Technology (2001), then received a master of law at China University of Political Science and Law, and obtained an LLM (2007) and a Doctor in Law (2011) from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.

His research crosses over a number of legal fields, e.g. competition law, telecommunications regulation, economic analysis of law and comparative law. In the past years he was working in the field of EU competition law and electronic communications regulation. His doctoral thesis investigated the interaction between those two legal mechanisms based on an extensive examination of more than seven-hundred European cases. Shortly after moving back to China, he began to switch his attention to Chinese Anti-monopoly Law. He is attempting to initiate an innovative way to compare Chinese Anti-monopoly law with EU competition law through case study.
